Welcome to Alberta's 2011 H.O.G.® Riding Rally, "Exploring Alberta."
Gophers, gremlins, grizzlies and dinosaurs! You will ride through flatlands,
badlands, and along the eastern slopes of the Rocky Mountains. Grande Prairie
is Alberta's newest boomtown in the northwest, just a pistol shot from "Mile 0"
of the Alaska Highway. This is the country where cowboys ride Harleys and
pickup trucks and where the gold rush is the search for oil. You'll ride through
Edmonton, the provincial Capital with its beautiful river valley, through Calgary
the sleek, cosmopolitan centre of commerce, and through miles of rough, frontier
wilderness that will stretch the limits of the fat-bob tanks on your Harley.
You'll ride through the settings for countless movies and, at times, it will seem
like Clint Eastwood and Morgan Freeman are there in their saddles right beside you.
The savage beauty of the sun setting over the endless prairie, the silence and desolation
of the foothills. Miles of superb blacktop on the smaller roads, away from
the pounding rush of the cell-phone and Blackberry set - this is a ride you don't
want to miss!
This ride is open to the first 300 pre-registrants.
Your registration pick-up will be in Grande Prairie on July 6th. You will
receive a rally booklet when you check in. The rally booklet will include
detailed route instructions and maps. We will leave Grande Prairie the morning
of July 7th and explore Alberta, finishing in Medicine Hat in the southeastern corner,
with a BBQ on July 9th. The ride will be unescorted/self-guided.
